Requirements for issue of Private Pilot Licence (PPL)
To be eligible for the grant of a Private Pilot Licence, the applicant must meet the following criteria:
- AGE
- EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION
- MEDICAL FITNESS
- KNOWLEDGE
- FLIGHT EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 17 years at the time of application.
- Successful completion of Class 10 or equivalent examination from a recognized Board.
- Must hold a valid certificate of medical fitness issued by an approved medical practitioner, in accordance with the standards prescribed under Rule 39B by the Director-General.
- Must pass the prescribed written examinations in:
- Air Regulations
- Air Navigation
- Aviation Meteorology
- Aircraft & Engines
- Note: Applicants already holding a valid Private Pilot Licence (Helicopters) or a Commercial/ATPL (Helicopters) are required to pass only the Aircraft & Engines examination.
- Must have successfully completed a minimum of 40 hours of flight time as pilot of an aeroplane, including the required solo and cross-country flying experience.
